Dr. David Roberts, a.k.a. “The Plant Doctor” is a renowned plant health expert with over four decades of experience in Plant Pathology. Specializing in combating diseases like Oak Wilt, as well as, the discoverer of Emerald Ash Borer, his commitment is to enhance the health of Michigan’s landscapes, which is evident through his dedication to site visits, plant problem diagnostics, and sustainable management advice, ensuring the vitality of our natural and urban forests.

Dr. David L. Roberts

Dr. David L. Roberts, grew up on a small farm in Ohio and attended The Ohio State University, where he received a Bachelor of Sciences and Master of Science, in 1975 and 1977, respectively. After attaining his B.S and M.S. degrees, he attended Michigan State University (MSU) where he received a Ph.D. In 1984, he accepted a position as Director of MSU’s Plant & Pest Diagnostic Clinic. This position provided him with a uniquely broad range of experiences and expertise across many disciplines. After almost 15 years as Clinic Director and teaching undergraduates and graduate students in a variety of university courses, Dr. Roberts assumed a more focused position in scientific research and extension, where he remained until his retirement from MSU in 2018. Over all those years, he discovered many new diseases and pests, and published numerous articles.
